Our MARENUM chillers and SPECTRUM Water heat pumps ensure the perfect climate on cruises operated by an internationally popular fleet – and integrate efficiently into the cruise ship technology.
A cruise is more than just a trip on a ship. It is a unique experience for anyone who wants to enjoy comfort, relax and discover new horizons. Whether on the sun deck, dining in an air-conditioned restaurant or in a private cabin with pleasant room temperatures, the atmosphere on board must be just right for guests everywhere. Since the quality of life above and below deck is closely linked to the right feel-good climate during the cruise, reliable and efficient chillers and heat pumps are essential for the technology on cruise liners. Furthermore, sustainable cooling and heating solutions help to meet emission and efficiency standards. With MARENUM chillers and SPECTRUM Water heat pumps from ENGIE Refrigeration, operators are on the right track. That is why one of the world's largest shipyards chose our cooling and heating solutions for use on an internationally renowned cruise ship fleet. Fifteen MARENUM chillers with a total cooling capacity of 60 megawatts (5 x 4 megawatts per ship) ensure a comfortable climate on cruises.
Why are our MARENUM chillers ideal for this project? Because their compact design and technological features ensure high efficiency and a balanced climate on cruise ships – regardless of the space available below deck – with low emissions and low fuel consumption. The refrigerant R-515B contributes to environmentally friendly operation as it has a low global warming potential (GWP) and is non-flammable, i.e. safe in operation. While MARENUM reliably supplies cooling to the ship's entire air conditioning system during the season at sea, six SPECTRUM Water heat pumps with a total output of 12 megawatts (2 x 2 megawatts per ship) demonstrate their technical strengths, especially while in port in winter. This is because during the cold winter months, there are partially bans on heating ships in port with fossil fuels. SPECTRUM Water scores even higher with its combination of high system efficiency and refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP).
Overall, the installed chillers and heat pumps impress with their high redundancy thanks to multi-compressor variants, each of which uses nine compressors. Further redundancy is ensured by the dual-circuit design of the cooling and heating solutions. In addition, our units are designed for the demanding conditions at sea – and therefore run reliably in all weathers. To guarantee additional efficiency and operational reliability, our service team is responsible for annual maintenance and other necessary services. This means that both MARENUM and SPECTRUM Water are integrated efficiently and safely into cruise ship technology – much to the delight of those responsible at the shipyard, but especially of passengers, who benefit from an ideal feel-good climate during their cruise.
