When it comes to hygienically perfect drinking water treatment with high-capacity heat pumps, the motto is: it's all about the right temperature. Especially in large-volume buildings, efficient drinking water treatment is essential in order to fulfil demanding hygiene regulations. This is because a temperature that is too low in water storage tanks promotes the development and spread of legionella and other bacteria. This is why the DVGW-W551 guideline stipulates that large systems with hot water storage tanks with a capacity of more than 400 litres must be heated to at least 60 degrees Celsius once per day.
The German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV) refers to the DVGW worksheet as the recognised state of the art. The TrinkwV clearly states that hygienic safety takes precedence over system efficiency. As rising energy prices and dwindling resources mean that energy needs to be used as efficiently as possible, choosing the best heating system, such as high-capacity heat pumps, is becoming an increasingly important decision.

Our SPECTRUM Water high-capacity heat pump is the safe choice for hygienically safe drinking water treatment. It achieves monovalent cooling medium outlet temperatures of up to +65 degrees Celsius and provides COP values according to the relevant technical specification. The need for additional heating systems and the required heating system configuration depend on the specific application and operating conditions.
When operated with electricity from renewable energy sources (as defined under § 3 No. 21 EEG), SPECTRUM Water can contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuel-based heating systems – the actual emissions reduction depends on the electricity mix used by the operator. An additional plus: SPECTRUM Water operates entirely without synthetic lubricating oils, eliminating a potential source of oil-related contamination in the event of a system leak.

Thanks to high cooling medium outlet temperatures of up to +90 degrees Celsius, it eliminates legionella in the shortest possible time - absolutely reliably and without the need for additional reheating with a gas burner or heating rod.
In addition, thermeco2 uses R-744 (CO₂) as refrigerant – a non-fluorinated alternative with a global warming potential (GWP) of 1 and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), and available at low cost. In short: thermeco2 is safe, economical and efficient – with high COPs and the use of R-744 (CO₂, GWP = 1) as a non-fluorinated refrigerant.
