One system, two functions, many advantages: SPECTRUM Water is used as a heat pump for heating and cooling in a modern hotel complex. A real gain in energy efficiency, operational reliability, and comfort.
Around 250 rooms and suites, eleven conference rooms, a wellness and pool area with lake access, a gym and a restaurant with rooftop terrace bar - a modern hotel and resort in Germany offers plenty of space for creative ideas and relaxation. To implement this concept, a reliable cooling and heating supply is required. That is why the operators rely on a solution from ENGIE Refrigeration. In this case, SPECTRUM Water provides a heat pump for heating and cooling in the hotel, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere. As a chiller, SPECTRUM Water regulates the temperature of the rooms, including the EDP systems, and dehumidifies the wellness area. The machine delivers an output of 506 kilowatts at flow temperatures between 12 and 6 degrees Celsius and return temperatures between 42 and 48 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, as a heat pump in the hotel, it ensures comfortable temperatures when required and heats the wellness area. During the heating period, SPECTRUM Water runs at 370 kilowatts with flow temperatures between 2 and –3 degrees Celsius and return temperatures between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius.
Heat pumps for heating and cooling – how it works
Our team of experts strategically planned both the cooling and heating systems: During cooling operation, SPECTRUM Water uses the geothermal probe field and glycol coolers for recooling. For heat pump operation in the hotel, the heat pump draws energy from the glycol coolers, the building's cooling load, and the geothermal probe field for heating and cooling. It's a smart plan that uses eco-friendly energy sources. Originally, the project involved a chiller and combined heat and power units, but ENGIE Refrigeration replaced them with one single, efficient solution. To efficiently control both heating and cooling, we're planning to connect it to our remote monitoring system. Also noteworthy: SPECTRUM Water runs on the refrigerant R-1234ze, which is highly sustainable and future-proof in terms of the F-Gas Regulation. ENGIE Refrigeration's solution with a heat pump for heating and cooling in the hotel not only covers multiple functions but also impresses with its long-term efficiency and sustainability.
