The new SPECTRUM – another milestone for heating and refrigeration

Save the date: 28 March 2022! From this day, the new SPECTRUM from ENGIE Refrigeration will be available around the world. We developed the SPECTRUM on the basis of our tried-and-tested QUANTUM technology. It will take your heating and refrigeration to a new level – and that’s guaranteed.

And users will even benefit twice: one, we will launch the SPECTRUM Water as a water/water heat pump for hot water temperatures up to +68 degrees Celsius – perfect for a monovalent or bivalent provision of space heating, service water and low-temperature process heat for industry and business, and for integration into communal and urban heat networks. And two, we will simultaneously introduce the SPECTRUM as a water-cooled chiller for refrigeration to temperatures of -10 degrees Celsius – as is often required in the food, chemicals and pharmaceuticals industry. How do you benefit? The SPECTRUM operates with outstanding efficiency in an extremely wide temperature and performance range, and is thus an innovative solution for all kinds of applications. Our high-end technology made in Germany meets tough requirements relating to economy, efficiency and sustainability. In short: the SPECTRUM will set you up safely for the future.

Benefits of the new SPECTRUM at a glance

Fully in line with the European Green Deal: our SPECTRUM Water heat pump will further the decarbonisation of heating – and thereby contribute towards the heating transition and help you achieve your own climate protection targets. The SPECTRUM is the ecologically sustainable alternative to heat generators run on fossil fuels and ideal for green building architecture. Potential sources of heat include groundwater, seawater, river water, deep geothermal energy, and waste heat from industrial processes and server rooms. This will bring you, the user, a good step closer to your target of climate neutrality. Especially if the compressor is powered with green electricity from renewable sources.

More sizes and a wider capacity range: numbering 12 basic models in total, the SPECTRUM Water heat pump is available with a heating capacity of 360 to 3,000 kilowatts, and the SPECTRUM Water chiller is available with a refrigeration capacity between 200 and 1,200 kilowatts. Operating companies can choose between the R-1234ze low-GWP refrigerants and the high-efficiency safety refrigerants R515B, R-513A and R-134a. As with the QUANTUM series, an extensive package of options and accessories will also be available. This means that ENGIE Refrigeration is certain to provide the perfect model design for your individual needs.

It’s hardly a secret that energy efficiency always comes first for ENGIE Refrigeration. And of course that applies to the SPECTRUM as well: the new highly condensing, oil-free compressor technology with magnetic bearings combined with flooded shell and tube condensers and the open-flash economizer integrated as standard guarantees maximum efficiency and performance with a minimal footprint. Another benefit: instead of being provided by a single compressor, overall capacity is split among multiple compressors, which creates redundancies that ensure maximum operational reliability. And our modular condenser design ensures that our machines can be flexibly and perfectly adapted to the feed and return levels on the respective customer premises.

The SPECTRUM heat pump and chiller is oil-free. This ensures stable performance and efficiency throughout the machine’s service life, as no oil deposits can develop in the heat exchangers and the refrigerant circuit. But it also makes for a simple and low-maintenance machine design, because there is no need for the peripherals required for oil return. It also means the customer does not need to provide any oil trays – and the compressor requires none of the intensive maintenance involved in oil changes.

Everything hinges on the foundation. That is why our SPECTRUM Water is based on the unique concept of the QUANTUM Water – which in turn has been setting the standard as the most efficient water-cooled chiller on the international market since June 2021. Accordingly, the SPECTRUM also features innovative high-quality technological components: the brains of the machine are provided by an intelligent and fast Siemens S7 PLC. To increase user-friendliness and serviceability, it will be possible to operate the machine on a mobile end device via smart control, in addition to the simple and intuitive operation via a 10-inch touch panel. Further highlights offered by the SPECTRUM: the interface with our CoolCare remote maintenance software, and a lead and follower machine PLC integrated as standard.

The SPECTRUM heat pump will allow you to benefit from attractive subsidies in future. The retroactive installation of efficient heat pumps for room heating in existing non-residential buildings is eligible for subsidies covering up to 45 per cent of investment costs from the federal fund for efficient buildings (BEG) as an individual measure. The integration of large heat pumps in heat networks is also eligible for lucrative subsidies for investment and operating cost from the federal fund for efficient heat networks (BEW).

SPECTRUM: perfect for numerous applications

Two models, countless applications: as our new SPECTRUM Water is available as a heat pump and as a chiller, the model is perfect for use in a variety of industries. One thing is clear – with its special properties, the SPECTRUM is always a safe investment in the future

The SPECTRUM Water heat pump is perfect for the following, among others:

  • Integration in heat networks, housing development concepts and district solutions
  • Technical building services, from large hotels and hospitals to shopping centres, office complexes, airports and public buildings
  • Provision of low-temperature process heat for industry

The SPECTRUM Water chiller, on the other hand, is perfect for:
